Indians, Blake agree to deal, avoid arbitration
The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that Casey Blake and the Cleveland Indians have agreed to a one-year contract in order to avoid arbitration.
Blake filed for $6.9 million through arbitration with the Indians submitting $5.4 million for their case. Financial terms of the deal weren’t announced, but one would think it would be in the $6.1 million range as that is the midpoint of the two offers.
Blake has been starting for the Indians in all sorts of positions — first base, third base, right field — over the last few years. He is believed to be a full-time third baseman in 2008. Blake helped himself a lot last season as he was a vital part of the Indians surge to the American League Championship Series. He hit .270 with 36 doubles, 18 home runs and 78 RBIs.
