Day 2 of Caribbean Series
Day 2 of the Caribbean Series was much the same as the first, with both Dominican teams winning again and moving to 2-0 in the early going.
In the first game, the Tigres de Licey defeated Mexico 2-1 after scoring a run in the eleventh inning.
Nelson Figueroa started and pitched into the tenth inning for for Mexico, giving up just one run over 9.1 innings, but it wasn’t enough as the Tigres went ahead on a sacrifice fly by Jose Bautista in the eleventh. Bautista also drove in the Tigres first run of the game with a home run in the second inning.
The other Dominican club, the Aguilas del Cibao, won their second game of the Caribbean Series thanks in large part to Rafael Furcal and Brayan Pena. Furcal started the game with a walk and moved to third on a base hit by Pena. Furcal later scored on a ground ball by Encarnacion, Pena scored later in the inning on a single by Mendy Lopez. Furcal drove in the team’s third run with a single in the seventh.
Today, one team will be assured of their first win and one will drop their first game of the series as both winless and undefeated teams will square off in head to head battles. Venezuela and Mexico will start at 4:00 PM ET, while the two Dominican teams will do battle at 8:00 PM.
