Blue Jays, Rios avoid arbitration

The Toronto Blue Jays and Alex Rios agreed to a one-year, $4.835 million contract to avoid arbitration. The contract calls for a $1.335 million base salary with a $3.5 million signing bonus. Rios can earn an additional $15,000 if he makes the All-Star team.

Rios asked for $5.65 million through arbitration, when the Blue Jays countered with an offer of $4.535 million.

Rios is still under the Blue Jays control for three more years before reaching free agency.
