Day 3 of Caribbean Series

Day three of the Caribbean Series saw one team earn it’s first win of the series, while one team dropped it’s first game.

In the most intriguing game, as far as standings in the Caribbean Series goes, the Tigres de Licey moved to the top of the standings by defeating the Aguilas del Cibao in a battle of unbeatens.  The Tigres rode the arm of major leaguer Ramon Ortiz, as he pitched 6.2 scoreless innings, on their way to a 5-2 victory of their fellow countrymen.

Anderson Hernandez and Nelson Cruz both went 2-for-4 for the Tigres, who used a four run seventh inning to push their margin from 1-0 to 5-0.  The Aguilas scored two runs in the ninth off Jesus Colome to narrow the margin, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Venezuela used Day 3 to win their first game of the series, defeating Mexico 5-0.

Venezuela will get their second shot at the Tigres de Licey today in the first game, while the Aguilas del Cibao will try to get back on track against winless Mexico.
