Red Sox, Kielty reach contract

Gordon Edes is reporting that the Red Sox and outfielder Bobby Kielty have come to terms on a contract that hinges on his ability to make the major league roster. If he makes the roster Kielty will earn $800,000 with a chance to earn an additional $300,000 in incentives.

Kielty provides the Red Sox with an insurance plan if they deal Coco Crisp before the beginning of the year, but the Red Sox do not appear to have room to keep him on the bench unless such trade takes place. With Crisp, Sean Casey, Alex Cora and Doug Mirabelli already in place for their bench, it’s unlikely Kielty will make the club.
