Brandon Lyon named Diamondbacks closer
Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic is reporting that Brandon Lyon will enter the season as the Diamondbacks closer. With the team trading their former closer, Jose Valverde, to the Houston Astros, there were were a lot of questions as to who would fill the role. Tony Pena and Chad Qualls also figure into the mix.
Randy Johnson reportedly threw off the mound for the first time since undergoing the latest of his back surgeries. He threw 25 fastballs and all indications point to it have gone well for the left hander.
The team is pleased with Chad Tracy’s status after undergoing a microfracture surgery, though he hasn’t begun to run yet. The team isn’t looking to add another hitter, as they feel that if Tracy isn’t ready for Opening Day, his return won’t be long after that.
