Erik Bedard officially traded to Mariners
UPDATE (2-8-08; 2:45 PM): Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the trade is finally official. The Mariners have acquired Erik Bedard from the Orioles in exchange of five players — outfielder Adam Jones, relief pitcher George Sherrill and three pitching prospects Chris Tillman, Tony Butler and Kam Mickolio. The players on the Seattle side of the deal have been notified of the completed trade
UPDATE (2-8-08; 11:37 AM): Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times is reporting that Erik Bedard’s physical with the Mariners was expected to carry over into today. This news indicates that the trade is not likely to be announced today as the team will not have time to review the results of the physical.
UPDATE (2-7-08; 2:31 PM): Hickey’s back with more information. This time reporting that Bedard is on his way to Seattle for his physical. With the flight he was scheduled to get on, he should be landing in Seattle any time now. Hickey states that it’s possible that the trade could be announced today, but a Friday announcement is much more likely.
UPDATE (2-6-08; 4:41 PM): John Hickey is checking back in to say that the deal is not likely to be announced before Friday at the earliest. As of 4:00 PM, Bedard was still in Ontario and it’s not clear as to when he will make his way to Seattle for a physical. It’s possible that he won’t travel until Thursday, meaning the results of the physical will not be returned in time to announce the trade on Thursday, leaving us with Friday as the earliest time for the trade’s announcement.
UPDATE (2-6-08; 10:42 AM): Zrebiec is coming back with more news regarding this deal, stating that Bedard stayed at home in Ontario on Tuesday, not in Seattle taking a physical for the Mariners. This news seems to indicate that the Bedard deal could still be two or more days away from completion.
UPDATE (2-5-08; 5:58 PM): John Hickey checks in to tell us that the deal will not be announced today, and maybe not even tomorrow. This saga has gone on too long to not get done now, but for some reason it’s taking an awful long time for this long, long rumored trade to reach it’s conclusion.
UPDATE (2-5-08; 9:34 AM): The Baltimore Sun is reporting that even though the trade dragged on into another day, “it finally appears set for resolution.” Jeff Zrebiec is reporting that the two sides have agreed to the meat of the trade, but the trade will not be officially announced until the physicals for Jones and Sherrill return to show a clean bill of health. The Orioles are known for requiring extensive physicals so it’s common for they results of the physicals to not get back to the organization until a day after the physicals are done.
Bedard is also subject to a physical from the Mariners team doctors before the trade is to be completed. He is supposed to report to Seattle sometime this week, likely today, in order to take his physical. If both teams are happy with what the physicals show, the trade will be announced shortly thereafter.
UPDATE (2-4-08; 6:15 PM): Geoff Baker of the The Seattle Times is confirming that George Sherrill is also in Baltimore undergoing a physical. It’s hard to imagine that the Orioles would bring all five guys in for a physical, but they are bringing the two major league pieces in. Assuming they all pass their physicals, it seems like this trade will be announced sometime tomorrow.
UPDATE (2-4-08; 2:54 PM): The Baltimore Sun is reporting that the trade could be announced either today or tomorrow. With Adam Jones believed to be taking his physical today, it’s speculated that the trades impending announcement will hinge on how long it takes to get the results back. If the results of the exam are in before business hours are over on Monday, the Orioles and Mariners may announce the trade today. If it moves past business hours, the official announcement will likely be pushed back into Tuesday.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is reporting that Adam Jones went to Baltimore, likely to take a physical with the club. John Hickey feels that Jones passing the physical would be the last thing standing in the way of completing the Erik Bedard trade.
The trade that has long been rumored about would send Adam Jones, reliever George Sherrill, and three minor leaguers, Chris Tillman, Kam Mickolio and Tony Butler, to Baltimore in exchange for Bedard.
The two teams began talking about this trade shortly after the completion of the World Series. Talks seemed to heighten when Jones left his Winter League club to go to Baltimore for a physical, but when word got out, the Orioles canceled the physical and tried one last time to work out an extension with Bedard.
