Benson, Phillies agree to minor league deal
Not even a full day since Benson’s agent proclaimed that the two sides may come to terms in 24-36 hours, the two sides have come to a deal.
Benson signed a minor league contract with the Phillies with an invite to Spring Training. He’ll report to Spring Training with the Phillies in hopes to beat out Adam Eaton for the fifth spot in the rotation, however, it’s said that a Triple-A start may make more sense for the right hander. With Benson just over 10 months out of surgery to repair a torn labrum, a surgery with a typical recovery time is 12 to 14 months, it would make sense for the Phillies, outside of an outstanding Spring Training, to start him out at Triple-A and bring him along slowly.
