A’s may hold off on trading Blanton
The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the A’s may opt to hang on to Joe Blanton a little longer. With the recent trade of Johan Santana, and the Twins not getting as great of a package in return as most thought they would, Billy Beane and the A’s are looking at holding on to Blanton until they’re in a better position to make a trade.
Unless something comes out of Cincinnati that blows the A’s away, they may choose to wait until a team loses one of their front-line starters to injury. There have been reports that the A’s and Red Sox — with the recent happenings with Curt Schilling playing out the way they did — talked about a possible trade involving Blanton, though there were no indications that they were going hard after a deal.
