It was first reported that Hawpe had signed on Monday, but new news is coming out saying that the deal has just become official.
The Rockies and Brad Hawpe officially agreed to a one-year, $3.925 million deal on Thursday to avoid an arbitration hearing. It was Hawpe’s first time to be eligible for arbitration. He had asked for a raise from $403,000 to $4.35 million, but the Rockies countered with a $3.575 million offer, leaving them slightly under the mid-point of the two offers.
Hawpe can earn an additional $100,000 in performance bonuses. He will receive $50,000 each for 600 and 675 plate appearances.
