Sabathia to not negotiate extension with Indians

Through his official website, Sabathia states that, with pitchers and catchers reporting to camp, he’s no longer going to discuss the possibility of an extension with the club. Instead, he will wait until after the 2008 season is over, which can’t be a good thing for the Indians. If they have to wait until after the season, it will give them just two weeks before other teams can enter the bidding war for the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner.

“This off-season, through my representatives at Legacy Sports Group, I have discussed the possibility of a contract extension with the Cleveland Indians. At this time, we haven’t been able to reach agreement. Now that the reporting date for spring training is here, it is time to put aside contract discussions so that I can focus all of my energies and attention on preparing for the upcoming season.”
