Braves’ McCann looking to regain consistency

After suffering through an injury plagued 2007, Atlanta Braves’ catcher Brian McCann is looking to regain his form as one of the league’s best catchers. Hoping to prove his 2006 season was no fluke, McCann to his upper body strength and increased his flexibility with yoga. He doesn’t want to credit his poor 2007 season to numerous injuries he battled through, but instead blames mechanical flaws that prevented him from duplicated the stance and swing he had used during the 2006 season.

While regaining some consistency offensively is important, he’s also intent to improve his defensive skills. McCann has been one of the worst in the league in throwing out potential base stealers of the last two seasons. Last year, McCann was able to catch just 19 of the 89 opponents attempting to steal a base against him, taking his two-year total to 40 of 140.

“This is the best I’ve ever felt going into the season,” McCann said. “I feel confident. I feel ready.”
