Chuck James ready to return to mound

Chuck James, who was diagnosed with a partially torn rotator cuff over the winter, is hoping to get back on the mound on Wednesday. He has been throwing on level ground since mid-January in an effort to strengthen his shoulder enough to allow him to return to the mound, and he thinks he’s far enough along that he will be allowed on the mound for the first time this year in the middle of the week.

It feels just as good as it ever has. Now it’s just the wonder of how much it’s going to hold,” James said in regards to his shoulder.

If healthy, James will likely be penciled into the Braves’ rotation, though they haven’t guaranteed James of starting with the team. The Braves have one spot available to James, Jair Jurrjens and Jo-Jo Reyes. All signs point to it being James, however, the health of James and Mike Hampton will play a major role on deciding where everyone starts.
