Gary Matthews to sit out drills during Spring Training

Fine with having to shuttle from outfield position to outfield position this year with the arrival of Torii Hunter, Matthews’ priority this year is to stay healthy.

After knee tendinitis cost him the playoffs, Matthews spent the off-season rehabbing his knees to get back to full strength.  He plans on pacing himself this spring, and will be held out of some of the drills by his manager to do that.

“I’m going to be smart about it,” Matthews said. “They need me on March 30, not Feb. 17.”
