Blalock puts surgery behind him, ready to play in the field

Last year after his surgery, Rangers’ third baseman Hank Blalock was limited to being the team’s designated hitter because his arm was too weak to throw the ball across the infield. On Monday, Blalock threw from third to first for the first time since undergoing his surgery last May.

His manager came away impressed with his work. “He was awesome. He had great carry and was very consistent. He’s really learned to use the bottom half of his body more. It was a big deal for me, because to play third base, you’ve got to be able to throw. He was pain free and putting everything right on the bag,” said manager Ron Washington.
