Pirates reach agreement with Byung-Hyun Kim

UPDATE (02-20-10:02 PM): Kim’s deal with the Pirates is officially a one-year, $850,000 deal. Pirates general manager, Neal Huntington, stated that interest in Kim was only with him being a reliever in mind. He’s expected to become Matt Capps setup man.

The Pirates have reportedly agreed to a contract with Byung-Hyun Kim. It took a major league deal to get him, which means it’s a guaranteed contract. The Pirates are said to be most interested in Kim as a reliever, though it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him work as a starter during Spring Training to give them a backup option should anything happen to one of their current starters.
