Duaner Sanchez cleared to pitch

UPDATE (2-29-08: 11:05 AM): Sanchez was cleared to pitch today, proving that the soreness he complained of yesterday was just a minor problem. Hopefully, for the Mets, the soreness isn’t a recurring problem. He’ll follow Johan Santana in today’s game.

Mets reliever Duaner Sanchez was set to pitch in today’s game, but was held out due to him complaining of soreness. Sanchez pitched for the first time since injuring his shoulder in a taxi accident in Monday’s intrasquad game and was encouraged with his pitching, as were the Mets.

Now, the Mets are failing to let the public in on the reliever’s soreness that held him out of today’s game. Manager Willie Randolph wouldn’t disclose whether the soreness was in Sanchez’s surgically repaired shoulder, but did say that it was uncommon for pitchers to complain of soreness early in spring training.

Randolph said Sanchez would be pushed back a day, meaning he will now be scheduled to pitch in Friday’s game against the Cardinals.
