Blue Jays told to slow down on Ryan
The doctor that performed B.J. Ryan’s Tommy John surgery last May has told the Blue Jays to slow down with the return of the closer.
The team had first planned to have Ryan make his first spring appearance today, but will instead throw in a simulated game. The doctor told the team he wants Ryan to pitch in two more simulated games before entering a spring game.
“It’s not a setback,” Gibbons said. “The doctor just feels better about doing it like that because when (Ryan) gets into a real game, the adrenaline is going to start flowing, he’s going to push himself that little bit harder.”
Ryan is still expected to be ready for Opening Day. He will not be available to pitch on consecutive days and go more than one inning during the month of April.
