Rosenthal on the Dodgers

Ken Rosenthal chimes in on the third base situation for the Dodgers, as well as some notes on Dodgers’ phenom Clayton Kershaw.

Rosenthal thinks that the Dodgers may set their sights on Ronnie Belliard or the Nationals or the Royals Estaban German to offer depth at third base. Either of the two would be cheaper than Brandon Inge or Joe Crede — both in terms of contractual obligations and what they would have to give up in trade — and could also fill in for Jeff Kent at second base in addition to relieving Nomar Garciaparra at third.

He adds that the Dodgers have a decision to make on Kershaw. The team is currently planning to keep him through the end of spring training, hoping he continues to impress and gives them no other choice but to keep him on as the team’s fifth starter, however, Rosenthal thinks the team will probably open the season with one of Esteban Loaiza, Chan Ho Park or Hong-Chih Kuo in the spot, sending Kershaw to Triple-A.
