Pirates to move Pearce to right field

The Pirates had a meeting today with Steve Pearce, the team’s top prospect, to discuss moving him to right field, away from his natural first base position.

The Pirates hope to get Pearce’s bat in the lineup sooner by moving him to right field. With Adam LaRoche blocking the way at first base, the team is looking at different options to get him to the major leagues.

Xavier Nady and Jason Bay have both been connected to trade talks over the winter, most recently with the New York Mets said to be interested in Xavier Nady as they look for a right handed option at first base and in the outfield. If one of the two is traded before the season begins, Pearce could step in right away, however, it’s more likely that Pearce begins the season at Triple-A.
