Blue Jays receive good news on Ryan; Sign Benitez
B.J. Ryan cleared the final hurdle before appearing in a spring training game today when he had a strong performance in a minor league game for the Blue Jays. Ryan needed just 16 pitches to get through four batters, inducing one ground out and a strikeout. The batter that reached base was via a walk. Ryan through 9 strikes. If the doctors don’t step in and delay a Grapefruit appearance again for Ryan, he is expected to pitch in his first spring training game on Friday.
The Blue Jays also signed Armando Benitez today to a minor-league contract. General manager J.P. Ricciardi said Tuesday that Benitez would report to minor league camp and was just an attempt to “stockpile as many arms as we can.”
