Jeff Weaver still looking for job
With three weeks to go before the beginning of the season, Jeff Weaver is still without a team. With Weaver, Kyle Lohse and Corey Patterson, Scott Boras hasn’t exactly had the off-season he probably imagined for the trio. Patterson had to sign a minor league deal to stick with a team, while Lohse and Weaver are still job hunting.
Jered Weaver, the younger brother of Jeff, said that the Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals have both expressed interest in Jeff. The younger Weaver said that his older brother has no interest in retiring.
“He wants to get four or five more years in,” Jered said. “He’s working out and trying to wait it out, just trying to get ready.”
As we said earlier in the off-season, the Cardinals seem to be the best fit for Weaver. After struggling with the Angels in 2006, the Cardinals picked him up off the scraps and Dave Duncan turned him into a World Series hero. Getting back with Duncan would be a smart move for Weaver if the Cardinals are still showing interest.
