Casey Janssen done for the season
The Toronto Blue Jays lost a big piece to their pitching staff today when the results of an MRI on Casey Janssen came back revealing a torn labrum for the right hander. Janssen will undergo a season-ending surgery to repair the injury in the middle of next week.
Janssen spent last season in the bullpen for the Blue Jays, serving as Jeremy Accardo’s primary setup man. With the return of B.J. Ryan, which shifts Accardo back to the setup role, Jannsen was expected to compete for a rotation spot this season. With Janssen now done for the season, Jesse Litsch becomes the odds on favorite to win the fifth starters job.
The blow to the Blue Jays pitching staff could make the Blue Jays-Mets trade that we hinted on earlier to move forward in it’s negotiations. The Mets are said to be dangling pitchers, while the Blue Jays have an extra right handed hitting outfielder for which the Mets have already shown interest.
