The Red Sox released backup catcher Doug Mirabelli today. The team informed him of the decision just prior to the team’s meeting before their game today. Mirabelli confirmed the move in a telephone call, but declined to comment on the decision.

Coming back from Tommy John surgery, scouts are saying that Francisco Liriano is still missing his fastball. In two appearances this spring, his fastball has been clocked at 88 miles-per-hour, which is pretty far off his normal 95.
