Rodney likely unable to go

Jim Leyland said today that it’s “unlikely” that reliever Fernando Rodney will be ready to pitch by Opening Day. Rodney has been bothered by shoulder tendinitis this spring and has yet to appear in a spring training game. Today marked the first day he was able to throw off a mound for the first time all spring.
“I’m not gonna push that envelope till it’s right,” Leyland said of Rodney. “As the minutes go by, I think it’s less likely (that Rodney will be available).”
With Rodney out, the Tigers bullpen on Opening Day will probably look something like this: Todd Jones, Jason Grilli, Zach Miner, Bobby Seay and Tim Byrdak, with a host of players competing for the final two spots.
