Red Sox, A’s revive Crisp talks

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the A’s and Red Sox are thought to be discussing a potential Coco Crisp trade again. The Red Sox have been itching to move Coco Crisp since the end of last season, due to the emergence of Jacoby Ellsbury, but have mentioned time and time again they wouldn’t just give him away.

The A’s leading candidate for the center field job, Chris Denorfia, is batting just .138 this spring and has the A’s looking to bring in a proven option for the spot. Ryan Sweeney, another center field candidate, though better suited for corner spot, is also struggling this spring with a .200 batting average.

Crisp has two years and $11 million left on his current contract. Slusser questions if the Red Sox may target Denorfia through trade, but says that if the Red Sox want any of the A’s top prospects, the A’s will go after Ellsbury instead.
