Lidge may appear in game this week

Brad Lidge, who is trying to return from a second knee surgery, may appear in a Grapefruit League game as early as this weekend if all goes well in a minor league game on Thursday. He threw batting practice on Monday and reported no wrong doings with the knee.

Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee was pleased with Lidge’s work during his workout, and hinted that he’ll be ready for Opening Day.

“We’ll see,” Dubee said. “We’ll see how well he throws, how well his arm responds, where he thinks he is at - I know where he’s going to tell me he’s at - but that will be determined as we go into this.”

If the minor league appearance goes well on Thursday, Lidge could appear in a major league game as soon as Saturday.
