Crede likely to be White Sox starting third baseman
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that it’s becoming “increasingly likely” that the White Sox will begin 2008 with Joe Crede as their starting third baseman, not Josh Fields.
Because of the team’s inability to move Crede via trade, the Tribune is speculating that with each day that passes with Crede still on the roster makes it more likely that he will get the nod. If he does, indeed, get the nod, it’s expected that Josh Fields will return to Triple-A until an opening presents itself.
Trade talks between the Giants have stalled due to inability for them to move a pitching prospect right now in order to get him. In hindsight, Sabean is probably wishing he pulled the trigger on a Noah Lowry-Joe Crede swap earlier in the off-season. Another obvious trade partner, the Dodgers, have never been willing to trade their top prospects for a quick fix, such as Crede, and they don’t appear to be changing their tune after the injury to Andy LaRoche left a weakness at third base.
