Jayson Nix named Rockies second baseman
The Rockies finally named their starting second baseman today. Jayson Nix lead the race from beginning to end and was finally crowned winner today.
“I told him this morning that he’s our starting opening-day second baseman,” manager Clint Hurdle said. “He’s coming off a very good finish in Triple-A last year and a very good winter campaign. He had maybe a one-week or 10-day period when he was trying to find his way, and since then he’s done nothing but pick up momentum.”
Nix beat out Clint Barmes, Jeff Baker, Marcus Giles and Ian Stewart for the job. His ability to field the position was never in doubt, but the big question on Nix was if he would be able to hit major league pitching. He shrugged off a slow start as he went on to hit .300, with three homers, this spring.
