Orioles release Jay Gibbons

In an effort to finalize their rosters today, the Baltimore Orioles released outfielder Jay Gibbons. The Orioles will keep utility infielder Scott Moore in his place.

When it was announced that Gibbons suspension would be pushed back, and possibly eliminated, the Orioles had to make a decision on him sooner, rather than later. As a result of the release, the Orioles will still be on the hook for the $11.9 million remaining on his contract. He was signed through 2009.

One Response to “Orioles release Jay Gibbons”

  1. Hail MacPhail! It is obvious he has command of the Orioles as he builds for the future. Scott Moore is a solid part of that future and his bat, power, talent and versatility at several positions will work him into a permanent postion in the lineup before the halfway point in the season. Scott Moore. HHmmm…. there are three Os in his name…. made for the O’s. Go O’s!
