Tracy eying return for D’Backs

Chad Tracy’s return from microfracture knee surgery has progressed, as he is now running every other day with no setbacks. Tracy traveled with the Diamondbacks to Cincinnati for the opener and spent part of the pregame running in the outfield.

He’s been taking batting practice since the start of the year, but he hasn’t been able to run and play defense. Tracy is going to have to prove to the organization that he can play defense for a full nine innings before returning to the field.

Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin is still expecting a return in late April or early May.

“I still hope it’s somewhere in April,” Melvin said. “Whether it’s May 1 or a little less, that’s what I have in my mind as far as timetables.”
