Nationals injury woes continue
The Nationals placed closer Chad Cordero on the disabled list following Friday night’s game in St. Louis. His trip to the DL is retroactive to March 27. Dmitri Young may join him there with a balky back.
Cordero says his arm is fine and should be able to come off the DL when he’s eligible, next Friday when the team plays Atlanta in Washington. He’s set to throw a side session on Saturday which will probably help the team judge when he should be ready to come off.
John Lannan will replace Cordero on the roster and start Sunday against the Cardinals.
Dmitri Young has been unable to play in games so far because of a bad back. He left the team today in St. Louis to return to Washington to get examined by the team’s orthopedist. Young underwent an MRI on his back which revealed inflammation. If he’s unable to make any progress over the next couple of days, the Nationals are likely to put him on the disabled list. Justin Maxwell is a candidate to replace Young on the roster.
