Indians sign Carmona to a long-term deal

The Cleveland Indians have gone back to their roots of signing players before they reach arbitration. The latest player to do such is Fausto Carmona.

Multiple internet sources are claiming that the Indians and Carmona have agreed to a multi-year agreement with Carmona that could go as high as $48 million over seven seasons.

His new contract will start immediately and will be guaranteed for four seasons at $15 million. Following that, the Indians hold options for 2012, 2013 and 2014 that would take the deal to $43 million if all are to be exercised. There are contract incentives included in the contract that could take the deal’s total worth to $48 million.

Carmona would have been arbitration eligible as a Super Two player this off-season.
