J.J. Putz threw a 41 pitch bullpen session on Wednesday, though he won’t be activated despite being eligible to come off the disabled list today.
“For me, I’m comfortable that he could pitch now,” pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre said. “But he needs to reach that comfort level himself, and he’s not there yet.”
Putz will throw on the side today and tomorrow before throwing a simulated game on Saturday. The team hasn’t decided yet if Putz will need a minor league rehab assignment before being activated or not, but it’s looking like they’re hoping for an April 22 return.
