Gallardo to start Sunday

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel revealed today that the Brewers will activate Yovani Gallardo to start on Sunday against the Reds. The question now is, who loses their spot in the rotation?

It’s been thought all along that it would be Dave Bush who is pushed out of the rotation, but he may have saved his job after going six innings and allowing just three runs against the Cardinals on Tuesday.

With Bush’s job relatively safe now, everything is pointing to either Carlos Villanueva or Manny Parra losing their spot at the expense of Gallardo. But which one?

“We haven’t decided yet,” said manager Ned Yost. “We’re talking things through, making sure we’ve got everything covered. It kind of changes from day to day, right now. It’s tough.”

The only thing for certain is that whoever loses their spot is going to Triple-A to start there.  They’ve announced before that Villanueva was going to work as a starter this year, whether it be in the majors or in the minors, so that rules out a trip to the bullpen for him.  If Parra is to be the odd man out, there’s no way any team sticks a pitcher with his ability as a starter in the bullpen.  He’ll go to Triple-A and be the first call for when the next opening appears — and with a rotation that includes Ben Sheets and Dave Bush, it could appear at anytime.
