Dmitri Young “experienced a sudden and dramatic breakthrough for his sprained lower back” after receiving a massage from the team’s massage therapist.

Young will now report to extended spring training on Sunday but still has no timetable for his return.

Young was taking batting practice prior to Wednesday’s game and the pain in his back and hip became so much of a hindrance that he had to cut his batting practice session short. During the game, he worked with the massage therapist and suddenly felt better.

The problem now is that Young has allowed Nick Johnson to play long enough at a high enough level that Young will likely only return to a bench role.
