Reds promote Hairston

The Cincinnati Reds purchased the contract of Jerry Hairston today, giving them another option in the outfield in place of the slumping Corey Patterson.
Hairston was batting .421/.450/.772 at Triple-A Louisville with three homers and 15 RBIs in 57 at-bats at the time of his call up. He has played all both center and right […]

David Weathers to DL

To make room for Matt Belisle’s start tomorrow, the Reds placed David Weathers on the disabled list with a sore elbow.
Weathers was removed from yesterday’s game with the injury, though an MRI revealed nothing to be concerned over.
“We’re going to put Weathers on the DL,” general manager Wayne Krivsky said. “With (Matt) Belisle being active […]

Belisle could return on Monday

The Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting that Matt Belisle could return to the Reds as soon as Monday. Josh Fogg is currently scheduled to start Monday’s game, but it’s looking like Belisle could move into the spot.
Belisle allowed just one run over seven innings Wednesday at Triple-A Louisville with the team’s general manager looking on.
“He […]

Dusty chooses Hatteberg over Votto

In true Dusty Baker fashion, Joey Votto will have to wait to receive his chance because of Baker’s fetish for veterans.  Scott Hatteberg will start at first base in the team’s season opener tomorrow against the Diamondbacks.
Between Bruce being sent back to the minors to give Corey Patterson the starting spot in centerfield and Hatteberg […]

Reds cut Mike Stanton

Dusty Baker announced this morning that the Cincinnati Reds have told Mike Stanton that they’re going to release him. The decision will cost the team $3 million this season and $500,000 in 2009 as they will have to eat Stanton’s contract.
Wayne Krivsky, Reds general manager, did not go into specifics when talking about Stanton, […]

Phillies talking to Reds, Giants about Helms

When the Phillies signed Pedro Feliz in the off-season, it pretty much said Wes Helms time in Philadelphia was all but over. The Phillies are currently seeking a left handed reliever in exchange for Helms and have two teams on their radar.
The Phillies are talking to the Giants, who are in desperate need of […]

Reds looking for catcher

John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting that the Reds are “actively seeking a catcher.” He speculates that the team is beginning to worry about the health of David Ross, who has missed three weeks of spring training due to back spasms. The signs point to Ross’s back spasms not doing anything […]

Reds sign Patterson, Hairston

John Fay is reporting that the Cincinnati Reds signed Corey Patterson and Jerry Hairston Jr. to minor-league deals. Both could factor into the center field position if the team feels Jay Bruce needs more seasoning in the minor leagues.
“Patterson will come in and compete for the center field job,” Reds general manager Wayne Krivsky […]

Aaron Harang to pitch Opening Day for Reds

Not that it’s much of a surprise, as they don’t really have any other choice, but Aaron Harang has been given the Opening Day assignment for the Reds.  The Reds will take on the Diamondbacks on Opening Day, with Brandon Webb starting across from Harang.
It will be Harang’s third consecutive Opening Day start.

Votto appears to be the man at first

Dusty Baker’s year off seems to have gotten him over his fetish for old guys. With the way he’s talking right now, it seems like Joey Votto will get every chance to replace Scott Hatteberg at first base for the Reds.
“What’s Hatteberg? Thirty-eight?” Baker said. “Votto’s the future here. I talked to Hatteberg about […]
