After being examined by team orthopedist David Altchek, the Mets and Pedro Martinez finally have a timetable for his return. Altchek’s prognosis is that Martinez can return to the mound in 10-14 days, but that would just be for a bullpen session.

Following his MRI yesterday, the Mets have shut Orlando Hernandez down for two weeks. His MRI revealed a tendon strain that will place him in a boot for two weeks.

UPDATE (4-2-08; 6:12 PM): According to Newsday, the Mets have just placed Pedro Martinez on the 15-day disabled list with his hamstring problem. They have called up Nelson Figueroa to take his place on the roster.

After morning meetings with Willy Randolph, Mike Pelfrey came out on top in the race for the Mets fifth starter. Pelfrey’s first start will come on Saturday against the Atlanta Braves.
