Shawn Green, a major league outfielder for 15 years, has decided to retire in order to remain at home with his family. Green indicated that he received interest from six or seven teams, but none of them were close enough to his California home to consider.

Rosenthal says that the Padres are going to take things slow with Mark Prior. He’s scheduled to throw off the mound soon and will likely start 2008 on a rehab assignment before joining the team in May.
